Where to Stay in Verona: The Best Hotels & B&Bs

Where to stay in Verona – a selection of the best hotels and B&Bs

Where to stay in Verona

Verona isn’t a cheap town to stay in and during the summer opera season prices rise even further. It is worth booking well in advance of your holiday to choose from the widest possible range of accommodation. There are some good hotels right in the centre of town, which are handy for sightseeing and for the opera. If you are arriving by public transport, and considering day trips or onward travel, there are hotels between the town centre and the railway station (Verona Porta Nuova) which are a convenient option. Drivers should consider the issue of parking – most town centre hotels don’t have their own parking and can be tricky to reach by car, and you may have to leave your car at a nearby garage at extra expense. Check the hotel’s advice and the reports of past guests. By staying slightly out of the historic heart you may be able to take advantage of accommodation with free parking while still being able to walk to the sights.

The best hotels and B&Bs

Hotel Accademia

A four-star hotel with spacious bedrooms and excellent reviews from guests, the Accademia is in a very convenient central location. The hotel makes a good comfortable base for exploring the historic centre or for seeing opera performances at the Arena, a short walk away. Prices aren’t cheap, but they are reasonable and this is probably the best all-round place to stay in Verona. I had a very comfortable overnight stay.

Grand Hotel Verona

An unexciting but safe bet, the four-star Grand Hotel Verona is conveniently placed on the road between the station and the historic centre. I stayed there a while ago, in a room overlooking the street with a nice outdoor terrace. The hotel was smart, efficient and made a good overnight base.

Hotel Milano

Hotel Milano is a popular three-star literally right by the Roman Arena. Rooms vary in style and quality – check the photos and measurements when you’re making a booking.

Hotel Scalzi

A decent budget option, the two-star Hotel Scalzi is between the railway station and the heart of town. Staff are friendly, and while the hotel may lack the charm of more central (and expensive) lodgings, it is a practical and affordable place to stay.

Relais de Charme Il Sogno di Giulietta

If you’re planning a real romantic break, you could consider splashing out on a luxury stay at this Relais de Charme, whose name means ‘Juliet’s Dream’. The building is located in the historic courtyard housing the so-called ‘Juliet’s balcony’ (a tourist attraction in the daytime but private at night). Rooms are lavish and elegantly furnished, and the central location is a good one for sightseeing. The Romeo and Juliet connection, though fanciful, should certainly add a touch of romance to your stay.

Relais 900

A small boutique establishment, the Relais 900 offers guest accommodation in an elegant villa just outside the historic centre (within walking distance), and has the great advantages of a garden and free parking. A good choice for a more personal welcome and a different type of stay.

A B&B within walking distance of Verona’s sights, with large bedrooms and English-speaking hosts, this is a good alternative to hotel accommodation.

If you don’t mind being a bus ride or long walk from the centre of Verona, these holiday apartments make a comfortable and peaceful base. The garden and swimming pool offer respite from urban sightseeing.
