As with most big cities, it’s a good idea to have an idea of whereabouts you want to stay in Naples. Those travelling through Italy, or planning daytrips, may find it best to stay near transport hubs, while others may prefer the historic centre. Look out for extras (this may include parking and coin-operated elevators).

Una Hotel Napoli
Located in Piazza Garibaldi, opposite Stazione Centrale, this is an ideal hotel for transport connections. The area’s not great otherwise, but it’s handy for sights as well as for day trips and onward travel. The smart four-star has a roof terrace restaurant.

Hotel Zara
An acceptable two-star option, Hotel Zara is small and aimed at budget travellers, offering room combinations with and without ensuite bathrooms (breakfast not included). The location is close to the train station – very convenient if not the most salubrious of areas. I stayed there a few years ago and thought it was fine for an overnight stay – read my review.
