Praiano, Amalfi Coast
Hotels, travel and tourist guide
Praiano is a small town located on the Amalfi Coast in Campania, between Amalfi and Positano. Less striking and compact than its neighbours, it offers a more peaceful experience at cheaper prices for those using a car to explore the area.

Praiano tourist information
Praiano is spread out over a long stretch of coastline. It has a small and picturesque harbour, Marina di Praia, but otherwise is a more scattered settlement than the tight-packed resorts of Amalfi and Positano. One of Praiano's most notable sights is the parish church, dedicated to St. Luke, the Chiesa di San Luca Evangelista. Within the church are several side chapels, some treasured relics of the saint, and an attractive eighteenth-century majolica floor.
Superb views of the coastline can be enjoyed from pleasant panoramic walks around Praiano, as well as from more demanding hikes above the town. There are several places to eat in Praiano, although many of the hotels here have their own restaurants. Somewhat surprisingly, Praiano also offers some of the Amalfi Coast's leading night-time attractions. The nightclub Africana is atmospherically located in a rocky grotto on the seashore, and dates back to the 1960s, when it was the trendy haunt of
Europe's glamorous bright young things.
Dates to note for Praiano visitors are the first Sunday in July and 18th October (Festivals of St. Luke), 18th September (the Festival of St. Gennaro) and 20th May (potato festival).
Praiano travel information
Get to Praiano
The handiest airport for the Amalfi Coast is Naples Capodichino (served by budget airlines from the UK). Praiano is less of a transport hub than Amalfi or Positano, and would best suit travellers who have hired a car to see more of the coast. If you are relying on public transport, the Amalfi - Positano - Sorrento bus service runs the length of the settlement. Ferries, however, do not call at Praiano.
