The best Trapani hotels and B&Bs

Lately Trapani has welcomed more international travellers thanks to Ryanair's flights to the local airport. Accommodation options have expanded and here's our selection of the best places to stay

The most pleasant and interesting place to stay in Trapani is the old town and most of the accommodation we've selected is in this central area, handy for the sea, for sightseeing and for public transport. However car-parking is always limited in historic towns, so if you are planning on touring by car, consider staying outside the centre or doing without your hire-car while you're staying in Trapani. The hotels in town tend to be rather uninspiring, though efficient and practical. For a more stylish and atmospheric stay, the best accommodation can actually be found in 'apartment' hotels and B&Bs. The best of these are listed below. An 'apartment' options will give you more independence, which may suit families in particular. B&B accommodation is a good way to save money and to add a bit more local 'feeling' to your stay, though I'd recommend you read recent reviews before booking.

Le Chiavi di San Francesco

This is a boutique hotel-residence in a good central Trapani location which offers either apartment-styleaccommodation. There is a rooftop terrace where guests can enjoy breakfast. With helpful staff and a modern atmosphere, this is a reliable place to stay either when passing through Trapani or for a longer break.

Abita Appartamenti

Another good 'aparthotel' accommodation option, the Abita Appartamenti offers comfortable modern rooms in a historic palace. It's clean and attractive, and in walking distance of Trapani's sights, and is rated very highly by past guests.

An efficient and modern three-star hotel which is well-located for public transport, the Vittoria is a practical place to stay. It also has the advantage of sea views.

Hotel Tiziano ****

The Tiziano is a new and modern four-star hotel with services including free wireless internet. There is limited free parking for guests. The hotel is efficient but it isn't in the most appealing of locations.

A four-star hotel in a convenient position for the railway station, the Crystal is another modern hotel with a rather standard 'business' atmosphere. A practical rather than charming place to stay.

B&B I Colori del Vento

This rather special B&B is centrally-located, with sea views and well-equipped, stylish modern rooms. Breakfast is taken in a nearby bar. A great-value place to stay, but book ahead as there are only a few rooms.

Another new B&B with four-poster beds and modern comforts such as flat-screen TVs, the Cortile di Venere is a cheap and welcoming place to stay. Again breakfast is provided at a cafe close by.

An unusually-located out-of-town option, this is a hotel right in the middle of the salt flats outside Trapani. It's a very atmospheric and peaceful place to stay. There's a swimming pool, terrace and restaurant.
