Stresa Hotels
Stresa is the most upmarket resort on Lake Maggiore, and hotels tend to be expensive.
Villa Aminta *****
Villa Aminta is a luxurious five-star hotel which promises a riot of chandeliers, frills and furbelows. It has excellent reviews from past guests, and is highly-recommended by the guidebooks for its hospitality and food.
Hotel La Palma ****
Set in its own gardens, Hotel La Palma offers well-equipped rooms - even jacuzzis - and balconies with lake views. The hotel has a private beach and a heated swimming pool.
Grand Hotel Bristol ****
This large four-star hotel was completely renovated in 2002, and is lavishly furnished with marble, antique carpets and chandeliers. On a more practical note, it also has a large car park for guests.
Baveno Hotels
Baveno is just along the lakeshore from Stresa, and is a quieter, more affordable alternative.
Grand Hotel Dino ****
A large and business-like option, the Grand Hotel Dino has its own gardens, underground car-parking and fitness centre. Expensive.
Hotel Simplon ****
Hotel Simplon is close to the lakeshore, and is surrounded by long-established gardens. Recently renovated, the hotel offers relaxing stays 'and the possibility to regenerate oneself with long walks in the green'.
Hotel Splendid ****
Completely restored in 2003, the four-star Splendid boasts a private beach on the shore of Lake Maggiore, an outdoor swimming-pool and a modern fitness centre.
Hotel Alpino ***
A cheap option close to the railway, the Alpino offers a wide range of room types, all with shower, telephone and television. Between March and October it also offers a restaurant and pizzeria.
Verbania - Pallanza Hotel
Pallanza, Intra and Verbania are inter-connected settlements on Lake Maggiore's western shore, a little further north than Stresa and Baveno. The lake ferries call at Intra.
Hotel Sant'Anna ****
Hotel S. Anna is much smaller than its big lakeshore rivals. The hotel is open all year round and is located close to Villa Taranto, one of the famous gardens of Lake Maggiore. The Sant'Anna has its own small garden, private parking and meeting facilities. One of its thirty rooms is adapted for disabled guests.
