Maratea's most famed landmark is this vast statue of the Redentore, Christ the Redeemer, reached by a road engineered in hairpin bends on stilts. Just below the statue are the ruins of an abandoned 'upper town' - the site of the earliest settlement at Maratea. Visitors can walk from the statue down through the abandoned dwellings and along a hillside path back to Maratea.
