Procida: where to stay
The island of Procida is not a big tourist destination like Capri or Ischia, and it only has a limited number of places to stay. The good news is that the standard of hotels is fairly high, while prices are usually reasonable in comparison with other Italian resorts. Most accommodation is simple here - don't expect luxury or extravagance - but it is comfortable, and travellers can choose from the smartness and home-produced wine of La Vigna, or the simple beach-holiday vibe of the Hotel Celeste near the sea in Chiaiolella. Although you may find good last-minute rates outside the summer season, delaying your booking is a risky option as Procida's number of tourist beds isn't huge and hotels can fill up. I'd recommend booking well in advance to get a good choice of hotels and prices.
Although some hotels - such as Il Gelsomino and the Tirreno Residence - are relatively out-of-the-way, Procida is such a small island that nowhere is very remote. Most distances on the island are walkable, and the little public buses are frequent and cheap.

Alberto La Vigna
La Vigna is a four-star boutique hotel which is the best choice on Procida for a romantic retreat. The setting is green, in a vineyard with seaside views, and the red-painted building is historic and appealing. The interiors are modern and stylishly simple, and the hotel offers treatments like massages, as well as tastings of its own wine. The hotel is on the slopes between the Porto and the Terra Murata so it is in walking distance of the best parts of the island (though it would be a good idea to arrange a lift uphill on arrival).

La Casa sul Mare
In probably the best position on Procida, overlooking the bay of Corricella, La Casa sul Mare ('the house on the sea') is a small historic-building hotel with ten rooms and great views. The romantic waterfront restaurants in the fishing harbour of Marina Corricella are just downhill from the hotel and the main port is also in walking distance.

Hotel Celeste
Hotel Celeste is a very reasonably-priced three-star hotel in Marina Chiaiolella, a bus-ride from the main port. It's near several restaurants and the best beach on the island, and is a simple and pleasant place to stay. I spent three nights at the hotel.

Il Gelsomino
Il Gelsomino is a B&B among lemon groves, near the Faro, Procida's old lighthouse. The location is rather out-of-the-way (a long walk to the main port, with the option of taking a bus part of the way) but that may appeal to holiday-makers wanting to soak up the authentic atmosphere of the island. The B&B has good reviews from previous guests.

Tirreno Residence
The Tirreno Residence offers self-catering accommodation in a calm leafy setting near the sea, located - like the Gelsomino - along the road leading to the old lighthouse. The rooms have little kitchen corners, and the hotel's gardens and swimming pool make it a pleasant and practical base on Procida.
